Edmonds Waterfront Field Trip (11/13/06) Highlights
It was initially seen flying far out from Brackett's
Landing but with the good sunny weather it could be followed with a
spotting scope. The fulmar flew in toward the group and finally sat in
the water to consume a meal.
Harlequin Duck, Red-breasted Merganser and
Pigeon Guillemot were seen from Marine Park. Just as the group left the
fishing dock, a fisherman snagged a Rhinocerous Auklet. Mike West
removed the fishing hook and no one cheered more than the auklet.
All
three cormorant species were seen along with many Pacific Loon, several
Black Scoter and large numbers of Western, Red-necked and Horned Grebe.
One Sanderling made an appearance.
Small birds dominated at the Marsh
where noisy flocks of Pine Siskin and American Goldfinch ate from the
alder trees. A California sea lion, migrating salmon and jellyfish were
all part of the waterfront experience.
There were 7 birders and 42 species sighted.
